So you want to create your own Kinja blog! Here's how to do it.
If you already have a commenter account, start with step 3.
Create an account by clicking on the "sign in" button in the upper right corner of the page. You'll be prompted to log in using Twitter, Facebook or Google. We use these third-party companies to keep your password safe, so please choose the one that you feel protects your password security the best.
Set up your Kinja profile. Your "screen name" will become your Kinja blog name. So if you pick the screen name AnnaleeNewitz, your Kinja address will be annaleenewitz.kinja.com. Sorry, that's already taken. Your "display name" will be what people see when you post comments or blog entries. You can also choose to upload a picture if you want.
Write your first post. Go to your Kinja page. You'll notice a little pencil icon in the upper right corner. Click that. Now you're cooking with gas. You'll see a window open up that looks like this:
You can add your headline, your body text, and pictures and video. To add a YouTube or Vimeo video, all you need is the URL or the embed code. To add a picture, click the little photo icon and you can add pictures using a URL or by uploading a file. By clicking "publish" in the lower right corner, you post onto your Kinja blog. Once you've done that, other people with Kinja blogs can comment on your post and even "share" your post to their Kinja blogs, too! Likewise, you can share any post in the Gawker Media network or Kinja network to your blog. So if there's a post on io9 you like, you can share it to your personal site. To share a post, go to the bottom of the post, and click the drop-down menu box next to the star. You'll see a "share to" menu.
Have fun! If you'd like to know more about how to format your posts beautifully, read this post.
